RSV Risk

What is RSV and how can ABRYSVO help protect against it?

RSV is a highly contagious virus that can lead to serious respiratory infections and hospitalizations in at-risk adults. ABRYSVO is a single-dose vaccine that helps protect you against RSV.

How contagious is RSV and how does it spread?

Very! RSV is a highly contagious virus. It spreads easily and rapidly through:

  • A cough or sneeze
  • Interactions such as a kiss or hug with someone infected with RSV
  • Touching a surface with the virus—like a doorknob—then touching your face before washing your hands

Who is most at risk for RSV?

While anyone can get RSV, adults 75 years and older or 60 years and older with certain chronic medical conditions or risk factors are at higher risk for severe RSV and complications.

How serious is RSV for adults 60 and older, and can it be treated?

As you age, your immune system weakens, leaving adults 60 years and older—especially those with a chronic medical condition—vulnerable to a serious case of RSV. And there are no prescription RSV treatments for adults, making vaccination especially important. For people at highest risk, the consequences of RSV include:

  • Serious illness
  • Severe lung infections, pneumonia and other serious respiratory complications
  • Hospitalizations

If I haven’t previously received an RSV vaccine, when is the best time to get protected?

In most regions of the United States, RSV season starts in the fall and peaks in the winter. Eligible adults can get an RSV vaccine at any time, but the CDC recommends that the best time to get vaccinated is in late summer and early fall, before RSV starts to spread.

How effective is ABRYSVO?

ABRYSVO was proven to help prevent RSV-related lung infections:

  • 86% effective in people with 3 or more RSV symptoms*
  • 67% effective in people with 2 or more RSV symptoms*

*RSV symptoms: coughing, wheezing, mucus, shortness of breath and fast breathing.

Who is ABRYSVO for?

If you’re 75 and older or 60 and older with certain chronic medical conditions or risk factors, you’re at higher risk for a severe RSV infection and should speak with your doctor about how ABRYSVO could help protect you.

The RSV vaccine is not currently an annual vaccine, meaning people do not need to get a dose every RSV season.
